Microsoft has let the release date for Windows 10 Mobile slip. While the new Lumia smartphones are due for release in November, it looks like those looking to upgrade will have to wait until December to get their hands on the new mobile operating system.
The information appeared on the Microsoft Lumia Facebook page, where customer support replied to the many queries about when users would be able to upgrade their existing Lumia phones. Naturally, the December date comes with a few conditions; the most notable is that not all of the older Lumia devices will be supported during the first wave of upgrades.
Only the Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1GB RAM), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930 are set to receive the free upgrade Windows 10 Mobile in December. The upgrade will also require 8GB of free storage, which may not be easy to free up on some of the lower end devices. Microsoft has not said anything about devices that have 8GB or less storage, but it is presumed that these phones will be left out of the upgrade programme or receive a cut down version of the operating system.
The free upgrade also requires the Lumias to be running the Lumia Denim update, although that is more easily accessible and has already been pushed out to most Lumia devices.
