MSI has announced a collaboration with Blizzard to create limited edition gaming laptops embellished with characters from the company’s increasingly popular MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. These laptops, a first in the world, will be available for pre-order in Malaysia starting next week.
The Taiwanese company specialising in gaming hardware and laptops is no stranger to these seemingly outlandish ideas. MSI’s gaming laptops are feature-packed with premium hardware, occasionally peppered with features that makes you take a closer look. This year’s GT80 Titan, for example, was fitted with a mechanical keyboard – the first of its kind in the world. Its gaming laptops also usually feature colourful backlit keyboards paired with MSI’s signature black and red colourway.
Perhaps it is not a surprise that MSI would be the one to create interesting collaborations with game titles. Heroes of the Storm is the latest multiplayer online battle arena (or MOBA) title released this year, quickly establishing itself as an interesting alternative to mainstream MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends. Players assume hero roles from the Blizzard universe, which alone is a huge draw for gamers who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s.
MSI has crafted three exclusive designs for three of its latest gaming laptop models, the GT80, GE62 and the latest GT72. Interestingly, the final design for the GT72 is still kept as a surprise. All three models are powered by the latest sixth-generation Intel Core processors, codenamed Skylake, delivering greater performance with lower power consumption.
Alongside the new Skylake processors, MSI has also introduced three new features into its latest-gen gaming machines. The first is Super RAID 4, MSI’s proprietary storage solution which is MSI’s fastest RAID 0 storage configuration. Using the raw speed of the new PCI-E Gen 3 SSDs with NVMe technology, Super RAID 4 is capable of read speeds of up to 3,300MB/s. In addition, the new laptops also feature support for the latest DDR4-2133 memory standard, as well as the inclusion of Sabre Audio DAC for exceptional audio output both in the built-in speakers with integrated woofer, or on gaming headset.
The three MSI models will be available for pre order from 13 to 18 October 2015, and pre-orders can be made at Asashi in Wangsa Walk Mall. Early birds will also receive an exclusive Lucky Dragon 1+1 package consisting of an MSI Dragon 29th plushie and an MSI Dragon Key Chain (first come, first served only). After this period, interested customers will need to visit authorised MSI retailers in Malaysia to make their pre-orders, which can only be done until 30 October 2015. All pre-orders will also receive free in-game characters, as can be seen in the image above.
