Motorola has been awfully quiet in Malaysia lately, but it seems like that’s about to change. We have just spotted the Moto X Play on SIRIM, which could mean that Motorola is preparing to launch the device in Malaysia soon.
Announced about a couple of months ago, the Moto X Play is a mid-range device. This is despite the fact that it is under the Moto X branding, which is Motorola’s line of flagship devices. The “proper” flagship is actually the Moto X Style (or Pure Edition, which is reserved for the US market), which has not been registered on SIRIM…yet.
In terms of specification, the Moto X Play has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, up to 32GB of internal storage (expandable with a microSD card up to 128GB), 21MP rear and 5MP front-facing shooters, as well as a very generous 3,630mAh battery. The X Play will run a near stock version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box; the 6.0 Marshmallow update will be available for it in the near future.
Chances are, both the Motorola Moto X Play and Style will be launched in Malaysia simultaneously. It would be pretty odd to just launch the Moto X Play here, seeing how it’s not exactly Motorola’s best offering today. As the 2015 iterations of the Moto G and Moto E have yet to enter our market as well, these affordable devices might be launched alongside the Moto Xs.
