Alleged render of the OnePlus X.
It has long been said that OnePlus will be releasing two devices in 2015. Even the co-founder of the company himself, Carl Pei, has confirmed this. Now that the OnePlus 2 has been launched, we’re only left with one more device to go, and chances are, it will be called the OnePlus X.
Interestingly, under the hood of the OnePlus X is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. That’s not a typo; rumours are suggesting that OnePlus’ second device for this year will share the same chipset as the OnePlus One. While it’s quite an old SoC by tech industry’s standards, it’s still a very capable processor.
Other than that, the OnePlus X will apparently have a 5-inch display, making it a more compact device than OnePlus’ other two smartphones. If the above render is to be believed, the X will also have a dual-camera setup along with a rear fingerprint sensor.
The OnePlus 2’s launch definitely didn’t go quite as planned. Even Pei himself apologised for the disappointing outcome, which are mostly caused by the controversial invite system and slow rollout of the OnePlus 2.
Hopefully, the young Chinese company would be better prepared for the OnePlus X’s launch, which could happen as early as this month – although Pei said the company was aiming to launch its second 2015 device for Christmas in a previous interview. The OnePlus X is said to retail at US$249, which is about RM1,100.
