On top of just announcing that the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be launched in more countries around the world on 9th October, 10th October and 16th October (it’ll be launched here in Malaysia on 16th October 2015), Apple also announced that their iPhone sales have broken the records again.
This time round, Apple sold over 13 million new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in just three days. This is a new record for the company’s iPhone sales, selling more than any previous first weekend sales in Apple’s history.
“Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history. Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Love Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9.” – Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.
This is of course thanks to being available in China in the first wave of launch. Last year, Apple only launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 9 countries initially but this time round, they have added China and New Zealand to the list. A new Rose Gold colour option probably helped the sales too. This is becoming like a yearly affair, back in 2013, Apple set the record for iPhone sales, selling 9 million units of iPhone 5s/iPhone 5c in 3 days. Last year, the Cupertino company sold 10 million iPhone 6s/iPhone 6s Plus in its opening sales.
