HTC is set to announce a new device next week, with many expecting it to be the device bearing the internal codename “Aero”. Despite being out of the game for some time, prolific leaker @evleaks has revealed virtually everything about HTC’s upcoming smartphone.
The HTC Aero will officially be known as the One A9. From earlier leaks, the One A9 is said to emphasise HTC’s design prowess – but will not be a flagship device (hence the “A” and not the “M” moniker). However, the A9 will supposedly feature a metal unibody and a fingerprint sensor, alongside hardware specs such as a brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 13MP rear and 4MP UltraPixel front cameras, and a 2,150mAh battery.

The emphasis on design is supposedly evident in the One A9’s metal frame, which is rumoured to be less than 7mm thin, as well as a large choice of colours to go with it. @evleaks’ latest One A9 leak has revealed that besides the staple Opal Silver and Carbon Gray, HTC will also introduce stylish new colours including Rose Gold (the colour of this season), Acid Gold, Cast Iron, and Garnet Red.
Speaking of design, the One A9 looks to be a combination of HTC’s One series as well as the iPhone. One notable absence judging from the leaked press image is the BoomSound speakers, which either suggests HTC have dropped the idea of superior audio on a smartphone, or have managed to shrink them to accommodate the fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the display.
HTC’s event on September 29 will of course reveal more that we don’t know, including the retail price. However, the pressure is mounting on HTC to introduce something to revive its ailing fortunes after failing to do so with its flagship One M9 and M9+ earlier this year. Perhaps a new line of mid-range smartphones could help?
