Samsung has announced that the Gear VR is now out of development and will be made available to consumers soon. The final product of the VR headset features compatibility with multiple Galaxy smartphones, which was one of the main drawbacks with the Innovator Edition that is currently available.
The Samsung Gear VR will be called just that; mainly because this is the first release of the actual product. It looks like Samsung has learnt from the lengthy development cycle and made some very welcome changes to the Innovator Edition. Primarily, it is the ability to use the Gear VR with the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge.
A couple of other adjustments have been made to the hardware, with the entire device weighing 22-percent less than the Innovator Edition, while the padding has been improved to provide more comfort. The touchpad also been upgraded to provide more control over the Gear VR apps; although it is difficult to say how much more control was needed.
The Samsung Gear VR will be sold for $99 (about RM434) this fall. For a glimpse at what it should be like, check out our lightning review of the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition.
