Good news for iOS users, as expected, Apple has finally released iOS 9 to the public. The latest iOS version is available via an OTA update, and is available to the latest iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) right now.
The update is over 1GB in size (1.2GB for my iPhone 6 Plus and 1.1GB for my iPad Air 2), so you’ll need to ensure you are connected to Wi-Fi and you have sufficient space in your device to perform the update. Fortunately, unlike iOS 8 update last year, iOS 9 takes up a smaller storage footprint to update. iOS 9 beta 2 only takes 1.3GB compared to 4.3GB on iOS app. On top of that, Apple will also allow users to temporarily remove apps if there is not enough space to complete the update. Once done, the apps will automatically be restored.
iOS 9 is available to a large number of iOS devices, including the iPhone 4s and above, iPad mini 1 and above, and 5th generation iPod touch and above:
- iPhone 4s
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPad 2
- iPad 3rd gen
- iPad 4th gen
- iPad Air
- iPad Air 2
- iPad mini
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini 3
- iPod touch 5th gen
So, what’s new in iOS? A bunch of things actually, if you’re using an iPad, one of the first features you should check out would definitely be the new split screen multitasking capability available for the iPad Air 2. Check out our previous post to see all the new things in iOS 9, which were announced in WWDC 2015 back in June.
