If you think that Quick Charge 2.0 is an amazing technology that can charge up your device from 0% to 60% in just half an hour, Qualcomm has something even more amazing for you. The company recently unveiled Quick Charge 3.0 that can charge up your devices 38% faster than before.
The new Quick Charge 3.0 is made for the next generation Snapdragon-powered devices. It can charge your smartphone 38% faster than Quick Charge 2.0, going from 0% to 80% in a mere 35 minutes. In comparison, that is double the speed of Quick Charge 1.0, which is already 40% faster than conventional charging.
So how does Quick Charge 3.0 work? Instead of using a pre-determined voltage length, Quick Charge 3.0 can identify the exact power needed for the most efficient charge point. It is connector independent, meaning that you can use it on a large number of devices. In case you’re wondering, yes, it supports USB Type-C.
Sadly though, don’t expect to see it in your smartphones anytime soon. Quick Charge 3.0 will only be available in the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors including the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618 and 430, which means that we should probably be able to see it on phones next year.
