This is rather peculiar. Meizu has given out invites for its upcoming launch event on the 23rd of September. With every invite, a GoPro camera was inside of it, with the words “Meizu Go Pro” on the packaging. We’re not entirely sure what Meizu has in store for its upcoming launch event, but this does raise a number of questions.
For one, it could indicate that Meizu will be launching an action camera at the event. Perhaps this is its way of showing that its own camera will be superior to GoPro’s offering. After all, why would the company give out an invite with an action camera in it?
Well, then there’s the leaked packaging of Meizu’s upcoming smartphone. Written on the box is “Pro 5,” which could be the name of a new flagship device. It’s highly likely that this packaging is for the Meizu NIUX, which has been leaked earlier this week. The words “Go Pro” in the invite could simply be referring to the Pro 5.
The Meizu NIUX is said to feature a Samsung-made Exynos 7420 processor (the very same one found in Samsung’s latest flagships) paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, 32GB of internal storage, a 21MP rear and 5M front-facing cameras, and Flyme OS 5.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. Interestingly, it could possibly have a Force Touch-like feature as well.
Whether or not this is just a word play by Meizu will be revealed on the 23rd of September 2015. GoPro has long been established as a manufacturer of excellent action cameras. If Meizu is confident enough to give out the camera with every invite, the Chinese company might have something interesting to unveil.
