So much for 22 September. It appears Maxis is ready to launch the hotly-anticipated “2016 flagship killer“, the OnePlus 2 very soon. A Twitter exchange involving Maxis’ customer support shows that invite codes will be sent out as early as tomorrow.
Our tipster, @kaihuansou, sent us a Twitter conversation that stated that OnePlus will begin sending out invite codes to those who registered via the Maxis website from tomorrow. From there, users would be given a special code that they can use to purchase the OnePlus 2 from the OnePlus website.

The staff manning the Maxis Twitter handle remain careful not to reveal more about the product, including whether there is a retail price in RM and the time that the invites will be sent out. Since the tweet from 23 August, there has been no other confirmation regarding the roll-out of invite codes for Maxis registered users.
That said, the “first come, first served” basis of the invite rollout suggests that there are only a limited number of invites available. The invites will apparently come from OnePlus direct, so these invites will carry a 24-hour expiry date – once they lapse, you can’t use the code anymore and you’ll need to get back in line…which currently stands at 4.78 million strong.
So for those who have registered via Maxis, you might want to make sure you keep your phone close tomorrow – there might just be a pleasant surprise waiting for you.
Thanks for the tips, Sou Kai Huan!
