When ASUS brought ZenFone Zoom to CES 2015, the company left out couple of information regarding the device such as processor and RAM. Even when we encountered the device at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, we only able to see it from a distance but that changes this week at IFA 2015 as the company has finally decided to reveal those details to the world.
As it turns out, the ASUS ZenFone Zoom will come with a 2.33 GHz Intel Atom Z3580 64-bit quad-core processor. The processor will be accompanied by 4GB of dual-channel DDR3 RAM and as per previous announcement, users will also be seeing internal storage of up to 128 GB.
Apart from these two new information, ASUS has also revealed that the phone’s f/2.0 10-elements lens are made by the renowned Japanese optical company, Hoya. In addition to having optical image stabilization system and laser auto-focus system that able to focus on a subject in 0.2 seconds, the company also stated that the 13-megapixels sensor on ZenFone Zoom’s rear camera is a Panasonic SmartFSI image sensor.
ASUS also stated that ZenFone Zoom’s rear camera is able to do close-ups as near as 2 cm and through a mode called Super Resolution, users are able to snap an image at a resolution of 52-megapixels which is done through a combination of four 13-megapixels shots. Just like ZenFone 2, ZenFone Zoom will come standard with BoostMaster’s 18w charger that enables users to obtain 60% of battery juice within 39 minutes of charging.
Based on the official press renders and hands on photos from Berlin, we also realized that ASUS might have slightly updated the physical design of the phone. At the same time, we realized that there are also some subtle but still noticeable differences between the phone’s Pure Black-colored unit and the one in Ceramic White.
Although we have been told that it will be released in Malaysia towards the end of this year, ASUS still has yet to reveal the actual availability and pricing for ZenFone Zoom. At the very least, the risk of the device being a vaporware has now been greatly reduced.
