After it has been accidentally revealed several months ago on the Google Play Store, Sony has officially unveiled the SmartBand 2. As its name suggests, it is the successor to the original SmartBand. Other than sporting a new and arguably better design, one of its biggest upgrades is a heart rate monitor.
Just like its predecessor and the SmartBand Talk, the SmartBand 2 is meant to be paired with Sony’s Lifelog app on the user’s iOS or Android device. Once paired, it will be able to offer insights on the user’s fitness, well-being, and even stress level. With the addition of a heart rate monitor, it should be able to track these more accurately than before.
Other than working as a fitness tracker, the SmartBand 2 can also notify its user’s of incoming messages or calls. Of course, as there is no display (unlike the SmartBand Talk), it uses LEDs and vibrations to alert its user. It is also waterproof, offers two days of battery life from just an hour of charging, and a removable core unit (just like the original SmartBand).
The Sony SmartBand 2 will be available sometime in September 2015 for 119 euro, which comes up to about RM550. No word yet on the availability of this product in Malaysia.
