The third installment of the Disney Infinity franchise will be arriving in Malaysia on 1 September. Disney Infinity 3.0 will bring the Star Wars universe into the fold; there will also be new figures from other Disney properties like the Avengers, Tron, Mulan, and Inside Out.
Disney has expanded on their ideas for the game, and will introduce new concepts and ideas. Introducing Star Wars meant improving on the combat system to better capture the experience of fighting with Lightsabers. To accomplish this, they brought on Ninja Theory, the studio behind the wildly successful Devil May Cry series. In addition to Lightsabers, Disney Infinity 3.0 adds the concept of special finishing moves. Each 3.0 character will receive a finisher unique to the character; for instance, Ahsoka Tano is able to use the Force to lift groups of enemies into the air and them slam them to the ground. There was no word on what Olaf from Frozen is supposed to do.
Additional game modes for the Toy Box are being added, which include an Inside Out themed platformer, a Mario Kart-style racing game, and a procedurally generated dungeon crawler. Figures from previous Disney Infinity lines can be brought into these games, allowing some degree of backwards compatibility.
Speaking of which, Disney has improved on two major aspects of the franchise. The first is by allowing any Star Wars character to jump into any Star Wars level. This could mean absurd things like having Darth Vader fight in the Clone Wars, or Yoda running around in Star Wars Episode VII. Secondly, the company has done away with selling Power Discs in blind packs. Customers will now be able to pick and choose precisely what they want without leaving their fate to pure luck.
At launch, Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack will offer the Twilight of the Republic Play Set that features Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker, along with a web code card that unlocks content for PC and mobile devices. A second starter pack will appear shortly after the first, and will instead offer the Rise Against the Empire Play Set with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
The Disney Infinity 3.o Starter Pack will retail for RM249 all most game stores. It should be noted that this Starter Pack is necessary to begin playing the game. There will also be a limited edition Starter Pack for RM449. This will include bot the Twilight of the Republic and Rise Against the Empire Play Sets, as well as the Boba Fett figure. The limited edition starter is only available for the PlayStation 4, and is the only way to obtain Boba Fett (at least for the first few months).
Each individual Play Set will be sold for RM139, while figures will go for RM55. Finally, Powers Discs will be sold in packs of four for RM39. Disney Infinity 3.0 will arrive on 1 September, with additional figures and Play Sets being announced later. The game will be made available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, iOS, and Android.
