As expected, Xiaomi has finally launched MIUI 7, its latest user interface for Android devices. It may be a China launch (the international launch will be happening on 19 August 2015 in India), but it gives us a glimpse of what to expect in the update.
Sadly though, Xiaomi did not talk much about MIUI 7. The launch event started off by introducing four new main themes catered to different users. There is also a collection of new themes made by the MIUI design community, and all the themes will be free for download for three days.
Apart from the appearance, MIUI 7 has also been enhanced for faster performance. At the event, Lei Jun demonstrated how much faster it is to get coupons in China using MIUI 7 compared to other phones like a Samsung Galaxy S6. MIUI 7 is also more battery efficient, and has optimised multitasking feature that are “not as demanding on the CPU”. Xiaomi says that MIUI 7 is 25% more power efficient.
Sadly, that’s all we know for now, I guess we will have to wait until the international launch to find out more. If you are using a Xiaomi device with the Chinese ROM, MIUI 7 will be rolling out to Xiaomi devices in China starting today, namely the Xiaomi Mi 2, Xiaomi Mi 2s, Xioami Mi 2A, Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Mi Note, Xiaomi Redmi and Xiaomi Redmi Note.
