Announced alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is the Galaxy S6 edge+, another phablet from the Korean company. At first glance, it looks like a bigger version of the S6 edge. However, there are a few differences between the two devices than size alone. For one, the Edge Screen of the S6 edge+ has several new features.
In terms of specification, the S6 edge+ is *almost* a carbon copy of the S6 edge. The new phablet still has Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 octa-core processor under its hood, two choices of non-expandable internal storage (32GB and 64GB), as well as 16MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras. What differentiates the S6 edge+ from its smaller variant is 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB and a bigger 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 resolution Super AMOLED dual-curved display.

Essentially, the S6 edge+’s hardware is similar to the Galaxy Note 5. The only thing that’s missing from it is the S Pen. In any case, the S6 edge+ also has a 3,000mAh battery with Fast Charge and Ultra High Quality Audio – which upscales compressed audio files up to 24bit/192kHz – like the Note 5.
As mentioned, the Galaxy S6 edge+’s Edge Screen received several new features. On the S6 edge+, the Edge Screen has been boosted in functionality. Where it previously only hosted the People Edge shortcut, Edge Screen can now be set to show app shortcuts as well, which should prove to be much more useful.
On top of that, the Edge Screen on the S6 edge+ can be accessed from any screen. On the S6 edge, it can only be accessed from the Home and lock screen, which limits its usefulness. You can now also edit the location of the Edge Screen shortcut to trigger from any position – previously, it was only locked to the top left or right of the device. It will be interesting to see if these new features will make it to the S6 edge via an update.
Just like the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Malaysia will also be bringing in the dual-SIM variant of the Galaxy S6 edge+ to Malaysia. As usual, the launch date and retail price of the S6 edge+ have not been revealed yet.
