Can’t think of a better use for your Android smartwatch? How about running a game on it? That’s exactly what a modder has managed to do with his LG G Watch. Out of curiousity, Dave Bennett attempted to run the modern classic first-person shooter game Half-Life on the smartwatch. Surprisingly (or not), he succeeded.
Although the G Watch has a somewhat capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with an Adreno 305 GPU, Half-Life doesn’t exactly run that well on it. Bennett noted that he is getting frame rate from anywhere as high as 30fps to a meagre 2fps. He also had to rely on on-screen controls, which is far from ideal.
That being said, it is a proof of concept. Who knows, maybe someone would figure out how to connect a keyboard and mouse to the smartwatch in the future. Needless to say, the game would probably work best on the G Watch rather than the G Watch R, seeing how it has a square display. If you happen to own an LG G Watch, Bennet has the full tutorial to pull this off on his blog.
Of course, whenever Half-Life is mentioned, there’s bound to be some sort of calculation or theory that ties it to “that”. We’ll just leave this comment by charleski on Ars Technica here:
LG G watch
L = 12
G = 7
G = 712 + 7 + 7 = 26
6 / 2 = 3You know what comes next.
