Hearthstone, the world’s most popular online card game, is gearing up for the release of its next expansion. The Grand Tournament will introduce 132 new cards to the game; along with a new mechanic called Inspire.
The Grand Tournament is a playful competition themed set that sees knights and champions from across Azeroth converge on the continent of Northrend. It looks to be rather different from the previous Goblins & Gnomes expansion which possessed a large number of cards with randomised effects. While interesting, the mechanics did not excite competitive players who would rather not rely on luck for something to happen.
Inspire, the new keyword ability, looks to be a much better solution to introducing new abilities. Cards with Inspire gain extra bonuses when a Hero Power is used. A couple of cards featuring this power have already been previewed, although these look like they belong at the lower end of the power curve.
Starting next week, players will be able to pre-purchase The Grand Tournament card packs in a special 50-pack bundle, on any platform, for a one-time price of US$49.99 (about RM190) up until release. Each account is only allowed a single purchase of the pack, and the promotion includes a new card back.
Players will still be able to buy the packs using in-game gold when the new expansion launches, and the cards will be added to the randomised prizes from playing in the Arena. The Grand Tournament will be launching some time in August.
