Xiaomi Malaysia has officially announced the arrival of its flagship phablet, the Mi Note, in the country. The Chinese giants’ answer to the iPhone 6 Plus will be available
from 28 July.
Announced at the global event back in January, the Mi Note is a new flagship category device from Xiaomi. The Mi Note sports a unique dual-curved glass design, where it has Gorilla Glass 3 at both the front and back of the device, and an aluminium frame for strength and rigidity.
In terms of hardware, the Mi Note has a 5.7-inch Full HD IPS display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM. The Mi Note also packs a similar 13MP Sony IMX 214 rear camera sensor, paired with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a two-tone LED flash. At the front is an 4MP “UltraPixel” sensor similar to that on the HTC One M8’s rear camera, with Xiaomi’s surprisingly good Beautify feature. Other notable hardware aspects include support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0, and Xiaomi’s own Sunlight Display technology, which dynamically adjusts the display’s contrast under varying lighting conditions.
The Mi Note also features an end-to-end Hi-Fi audio system, with 24 bit/192kHz lossless playback. It uses the highest quality audio decoder available on a smartphone, together with two low power and two precision amplifiers. Xiaomi says that the cost of putting together the audio system on the Mi Note is ten times higher than an average smartphone’s audio system.
The Mi Note that will be available in Malaysia will be the 64GB variant – Xiaomi clearly has heard the calls from its users about the small 16GB version of the Mi 4i. It will be available in White, and will retail for RM1,549. As for the Mi Note Pro, Xiaomi says there are currently no plans to bring it out of China just yet.
The first flash sale for the Mi Note in Malaysia will take place on 28 July, where selected accessories for the phablet will also be made available. Xiaomi also mentions that the company has partnered with digi, Celcom and U Mobile, where each telco’s announcements will be made in the next few weeks.
