Xiaomi has sent out invites for a product launch event slated for next week. Despite the scarce amount of information, this is very likely to be the launch of the company’s long-awaited Mi Note flagship phablet.
As we mentioned just yesterday, Xiaomi has begun launching the Mi Note smartphone outside of China for the first time, starting in Hong Kong. With a price tag of HK$2,999 (about RM1,470) it is still priced lower than the other Android flagships you can find today.
Xiaomi’s pricing strategy is to follow the original retail price in China as closely as possible, which suggests that the price of the Mi Note in Malaysia will follow closely to the price in China (2,499 Yuan = RM1,530 for the 64GB version). That said, the OnePlus One which packs a similar Snapdragon 801/3GB RAM/13MP camera setup is noticeably cheaper at RM1,199 (RM1,270 with GST) and can be purchased without a contract from Maxis.
In any case, we’ll find out very soon. There’s no indication either whether Xiaomi will be bringing in the 16GB or 64GB, and it is highly unlikely that the Pro version will make its way here as well. Of course, Xiaomi could throw all of us a curve ball and announce the Mi TV 2, but that’s even more of a remote possibility.
