The much anticipated Asus ZenPad S 8.0 has made it to the US, but it’s not exactly the high-end model that we’ve been expecting. However, it still boasts pretty respectable hardware, and it’s only going for US$200, which comes up to about RM760.
This particular variant of the ZenPad S 8.0 isn’t powered by the fast Intel Atom Z3580 64-bit processor (that is also powering the Asus ZenFone 2). Instead, it has a slightly slower Atom Z3560 quad-core chipset that is clocked at 1.83GHz. The amount of RAM it has isn’t 4GB either, but a very adequate 2GB. Other than that, this is a WiFi only model.
That being said, it still retains one very important hardware: the 8-inch 2048 x 1536 IPS display. Other specifications of this ZenPad S 8.0 variant include 32GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing shooter, and Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
As for us Malaysians, only two 7-inch Asus ZenPad tablets have been spotted in SIRIM so far, with the ZenPad S 8.0 nowhere to be found. However, Asus Malaysia did mention that we’ll hear more about the ZenPad tablets this month. Hopefully, these new tablets will be launched in Malaysia soon.
