Have you ever thought of running the full Windows desktop operating system on your smartphones? Given the obvious architecture differences between PC and smartphone, this sounds more like wishful thinking but quite a number of ambitious folks out there actually managed to make it work over the years.
This is one of the latest attempts to do so with Windows 7 and Windows 8 using ASUS ZenFone 2. As noted by the modder, these attempts were sparked by his curiosity with the idea of running Windows at near native speed on Intel-based smartphone. The idea seems really plausible but then again, the Intel Atom processor used in ZenFone 2 is made for Android.
Nevertheless, the video above as well as the one here for Windows 8 showed that the results seemed to be far off from the modder’s objective. In fact, it seemed better than most of the previous attempts to run desktop version of Windows on smartphones. While the modder has noted that the ZenFone 2 model that was used in these attempts is the ZE551, the exact specifications of the device were not listed though.
For ZenFone 2 owners out there that are wondering if they are able to try this at home, the modder has listed the necessary steps right here which are rather complex and definitely not for the faint-hearted.
