Today marks Honor Malaysia’s first-ever Ramadan sales promotion. Offering exciting flash deals for only RM1 over four days, this was a treat for Malaysian Honor fans and those looking for a bargain ahead of the holiday season. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go to plan.
With the first flash sale starting at 10:08am this morning, the vmall.my domain became inaccessible for many users hoping to catch the first flash sale, which was the Honor Ultra-Thin 4,800mAh Power Bank for just RM1 – limited to only 50 units, of course. Up until the time of writing, access to the site and any of its product pages is either slow or unable to load at all, with plenty of complaints of users experiencing a 502 Bad Gateway error, which usually happens when a site’s servers are unable to cope with the amount of incoming traffic. There are, of course, those who managed to purchase the power bank as promised.
This, of course, is quite familiar to many. When Xiaomi first started out its business in Malaysia, its flash sales system – the first of its kind in the country – caused plenty of issues with consumers trying to access the site. The company quickly doubled down on improving the site’s capacity to handle traffic, and performed a lot better in later flash sales.
At the time of writing, Honor Malaysia’s Facebook page is still receiving a barrage of complaints from those who are still unable to access the site. Crucially, the social media managers for the page – which is usually very quick to respond – is keeping mum on the issue.
Let’s hope that the company resolves the bandwidth issue in time for tomorrow’s flash sale, which will surely attract even more people: RM1 for the well-reviewed Honor 6 Plus, which usually goes for RM1,399.
