In the market for a premium 8-inch tablet? Then Huawei’s new MediaPad M2 tablet could be right up your alley. Powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 930 processor (the very same chipset found in the Huawei P8), this all-metal 7.8mm thin tablet has just been spotted in SIRIM’s database, suggesting that a Malaysian launch could be happening very soon.
As the successor to the Huawei MediaPad M1, the M2 is superior in almost every aspect. It has an 8-inch 16:10 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, a Kirin 930 processor clocked at 2GHz paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 128GB, and a 4,800mAh battery. There’s also a Premium Edition of the tablet that comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Rounding out the hardware of the MediaPad M2 are an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing snapper, LTE connectivity, and Emotion UI 3.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. Looking at these specifications, the M2 is undoubtedly one of the more powerful tablets in the market, so don’t expect it to come cheap.
Like we always say when a device is spotted in SIRIM’s database, a local launch is not guaranteed until it is confirmed by the company itself. Chances are, however, the Huawei MediaPad M2 will be made available in Malaysia sooner or later.
