Xiaomi is adding yet another product under its smart home lineup. This time around, it’s an air conditioner that the company has worked on with Midea. Mind you, it’s not just any air conditioner; it’s a smart one. Dubbed the i-Youth Smart air conditioner, it boasts several interesting features, and it works in tandem with Xiaomi’s Mi Band as well.
The Internet of Things play a central role on how the i-Youth Smart air conditioner works. Without a Mi Band, it can be controlled via WiFi and Bluetooth, but once it is connected to Xiaomi’s smartband, things get very interesting.
For starters, once the i-Youth Smart air conditioner detects that a connected Mi Band is nearby, it would automatically switch on. The same applies once it no longer detects the smartband, in which case, it would switch off automatically. Essentially, no one has to manually switch the air conditioner on or off anymore.
Of course, that’s not the only thing that makes the air conditioner “smart”. Working in tandem with the Xiaomi Mi Band, the air conditioner can analyse your sleeping pattern and adjust the room temperature accordingly. For example, once it detects that you’re in deep sleep, it will “maintain the optimum temperature” to ensure that you won’t wake up in the middle of the night because it is too hot or too cold.
However, while the i-Youth Smart air conditioner is a pretty neat product, it’s very likely that it will only be made available in China. It is now on sale in the country for 2699 Chinese yuan (about RM1,645). That being said, Midea does have a presence in Malaysia. Who knows, Xiaomi might just bring its smart home products into Malaysia in the future.
