The first half of 2015 is officially over, and Xiaomi just unveiled that the company has sold 34.7 million smartphones so far – that’s a very impressive increase of 33% year-on-year.
“Even with the China smartphone market slowing down, we did a stellar job of posting 33% growth on last year’s numbers. It can be said that we outperformed the market and produced an excellent report card.” – Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi.
The top six models sold includes Mi 2, Mi 3, Redmi, Redmi Note, Mi 4 and Redmi 2, shipping over 10 million units each. The success of Xiaomi’s sales is thanks to its innovative business model, which includes selling directly to consumers via e-commerce. About 70% of the company’s total smartphone sales are done via its website at Mi.com, helping the company become China’s third largest e-commerce player.
Of course, having constant sales promotion helps the company too. Xiaomi says that in its Mi Fan Festival that was held in April this year, they sold 2.12 million phones in just 12 hours. The company is always constantly having sales around the world, the next one for us is the Hari Raya sales that was unveiled just yesterday.
This is definitely a very impressive number for Xiaomi, let’s hope that they can keep this up and meet their target of selling 100 million smartphones by the end of the year.
