As usual of OnePlus, the company has revealed yet another one of the features for its upcoming smartphone, the OnePlus 2: a fingerprint sensor. It assured its fans that the sensor used in the OnePlus 2 will not disappoint as well, claiming that it is “refined and lightning quick, unlocking your device faster than (Apple’s) TouchID.”
Beyond that claim, not much is revealed about the sensor itself. OnePlus only said that “one quick tap (of the sensor) takes you right to your homescreen,” and that up to five fingerprint profiles can be stored. Unfortunately, the company did not mention the placement of the sensor, but alleged images of the OnePlus 2 (which many believe to be fake) do show that it will be placed right below the rear camera.

According to OnePlus, it was actually planning to include a fingerprint sensor in the One. But the company decided to wait for the technology to mature before trying to implement it in its devices. Boasting that the OnePlus 2 will have one of the fastest fingerprint sensors in the market, it will be interesting to see how its claim will hold up when the phone is officially available.
Seeing how a fingerprint sensor will definitely add up to the cost of the OnePlus 2, many fans are expressing their concern that it will not be an “affordable flagship” device anymore like its predecessor. OnePlus also confirmed that the price of the 2 will “certainly be higher than US$322,” which comes up to about RM1,215. While this certainly isn’t an exorbitant asking price, it’s very likely the 2 will be priced higher than the One, which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise.
As we approach closer to the OnePlus 2’s unveiling on the 27th of July, more details should be revealed by the young company. The next teaser will be revealed on the 7th of July 2015, so keep your eyes peeled.
