Just about two weeks ago, the Sony Xperia Z4 was reported to suffer from some overheating problem and now, it’s the Sony Xperia Z3+’s (international variant of the Xperia Z4) turn. A video shows a Sony Xperia Z3+ overheating when the camera app is in use, and in less than 30 seconds, the app will crash.
In the video made by Android Pit, once he activates the AR feature on the camera app, the device will show a warning message saying that if temperate rise, the app may close. That isn’t a problem of course, the warning message has been around for quite some time now, but after trying out the AR feature for about 15 seconds, the device issued a warning saying that the temperature is rising.
After about another 5 seconds, the camera app indeed shuts down, with an error message saying “Camera will now turn off temporarily to cool down”. According to Android Pit, the same will happen if you try to launch the camera app after playing a high-res game or after running benchmark tests.
Sony is aware of the problem and will issue a firmware patch, but if the overheating is indeed caused by the processor, will the software update solve the problem? The Sony Xperia Z4 was reported to overheat and hence, the performance will be throttled, scoring an Antutu benchmark score of only 45,000.
Let’s hope that the firmware update will help with the problem but until then, I guess what Android Pit says is correct, just put the phone into a tub of water, and let it cool down.
