If you’ve ever wanted to sign up for Facebook Messenger but do not want to link it to your Facebook account, you may soon be able to do so. Facebook recently announced that you can now sign up for Messenger without a Facebook account.
Sadly though, the feature is now available for Canada, the U.S., Peru or Venezuela. When you first load Facebook Messenger, the app will ask if you want to “Log in with Facebook”, or if you are “Not on Facebook”. Tap on the latter and all you need to sign up for Facebook Messenger is a phone number, a name, as well as a photo and you can get started.
The update will open Facebook Messenger up to a wider audience, allowing more people to use the features inside of Messenger including photos, videos, group chats, voice and video calling, stickers and more.
Will you use Facebook Messenger if you don’t have to link it to your Facebook account? Let’s hope the social network brings the feature to more countries. Check out Facebook Newsroom for more information.
