Good news for those of you who are using a Sony Xperia device. Sony has just released its Android M Developer Preview for Xperia devices in the company’s Open Device Program.
The tool is open to all but is aimed at helping developers discover the changes of Android M, and then test and verify their apps on the new platform. The supported devices include Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra, Z, ZL, Tablet Z, E3, M2, T2 Ultra, T3, Xperia L and Xperia S.
If you are using one of these devices, follow Sony’s guide to get instructions on building AOSP M Developer Preview, and download the necessary software binaries. After that, create your test image, flash it onto your device, and verify your apps.
Do proceed with caution though, AOSP software is not certified or intended for regular use, so if you’re not familiar with all these, do not flash your device. It is only available for devices with an unlocked boot loader, and is limited in terms of functionality – the modem and camera, for example, are not implemented.
