OnePlus has just announced that its next flagship killer, the OnePlus 2, will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor. For those of you who are worried about the overheating problem, don’t worry, the company has a way to workaround, and says that the 2 will be “cooler than ever”.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor is without a doubt one of the most powerful processors found in the market. It is powering many flagship smartphones such as the HTC One M9, Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, LG G Flex 2, Sony Xperia Z3+. Sadly though, there have been various reports saying that the processor has been causing many of the above-mentioned devices to overheat.
So what is OnePlus doing with the 2 to prevent it from overheating? The company says that it has worked very closely with Qualcomm to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2. Hardware wise, it uses thermal gel and graphite to help with better heat dissipation. The software has also been enhanced to help overcome the heating problems.
“For example, one or two of the larger processors would be used for graphics-heavy gaming, while in contrast, the small processor would be used for simple text messaging. In layman’s terms, one of our ROM’s features is to intuitively know which processor should be used for what task, and it avoids using two or more processors that are right next to each other.” – OnePlus wrote in a blog post.
Overall, the Snapdragon 810 processor, along with Adreno 430 GPU, allows for “desktop-grade” performance, and supports features such as streaming 4K Ultra HD videos, crisp and fast photos with quick snap, immersive 3D gaming, high-quality video streaming that uses less bandwidth, and exceptional battery life.
Despite Qualcomm’s denial, the Snapdragon 810 has definitely been making quite some headlines, the latest one is the Sony Xperia Z4 overheating. Let’s hope that things for the chipset maker will improve in the OnePlus 2.
