Alleged image of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.
Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has just posted on his Weibo account that a new Note device will be unveiled on the 29th of June 2015. Seeing how the Xiaomi Mi Note and its Pro variant have only been launched earlier this year, it’s highly likely that a successor to the hugely popular Redmi Note will be unveiled on that day.
Not surprisingly, several leaks of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 have already made it to the Internet. The purported images of the smartphone show that it could possibly have a metal unibody design, which is a little odd as the Redmi line of devices are supposed to be budget-friendly.
In terms of specification, the Redmi Note 2 is rumoured to have a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display, a 64-bit MediaTek MTK6795 octa-core processor, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front-facing shooter. Unfortunately, these are the only hardware information that has been leaked so far.
In any case, as these specifications and images did not come from Xiaomi itself, nothing can be confirmed yet. We’d just have to wait until the 29th of June to find out. It will be interesting to see if this upcoming device can repeat the success of its predecessor; assuming the device launching on that day is indeed the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.
