During Google I/O 2015, Google announced that they will be making a new category on their Play Store to make it easier to discover apps for kids. The category, called Family, is now available on the Play Store.
Available immediately, head on to the apps section on the Play Store, and select Categories. Scroll a little and you will be greeted with a new Family section. There are subcategories that filter by age and the type of apps and games you’re looking for.
- Ages 5 & under
- Ages 6-8
- Ages 9 & up
- Action & Adventure
- Brain Games
- Creativity
- Education
- Music & Video
- Pretend Play
This is available for both Play Store on the web and for Android devices. Just like Play Store for other categories, Family will show you popular apps, spotlights, apps recommended for you and such.
This is similar to the Kids category Apple has on the App Store, allowing parents and guardians to easily discover games and apps that are appropriate for children of different age. If you’re not too keen on exposing children to mobile games, the education subcategory is perfect to let children learn and discover more things.
