The Pebble Time has been shipped to backers, and the smartwatch will soon be available for pre-order for regular customers. However, Pebble – the company – is still facing some difficulties dealing with Apple and the App Store. It turns out that Cupertino has not approved the latest update for the Pebble Time app, and this is preventing Pebble users from using their smartwatches with their iPhones.
Pebble revealed that the Pebble Time app was approved by Apple’s opaque review process on 18 May, but an updated version of the app submitted on 22 May has been stuck in the review process. Apple has not commented on what the problem is, but Pebble has noted that the original Pebble app also has a pending update that has been stuck in the review process for 43 days now.
As a result of this, Pebble has asked its fans to reach out to Apple directly, or through social media to make it known that they want the Pebble Time app approved. It has created the #FreeOurPebble hashtag to organise the movement, although it is likely that this will do little to change Apple’s mind on whatever is going on with its review process.
In the mean time, Pebble has advised its fans to borrow an Android device from a friend if they want to use the smartwatch. It’s not the perfect solution, and more likely to annoy its customers; but then again, this situation isn’t exactly Pebble’s fault.
