Nintendo has announced Monster Hunter X for the 3DS; and as usual, it is bound for the Japanese market first. Naturally, the X in the name stands for “Cross”. It is unclear if this means anything, but there is a trailer showing some new monsters and attacks.
The trailer shows a number of monsters returning from the previous games, including the iconic Brachydios, Rathian, and Zinogre. There is also a new monster that appears to be a demonic, fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex. Naturally, there will also be new attacks to complement the returning array of weapons.
Interestingly, the maps shown in the trailer appear to be similar to those found in Monster Hunter 4. These could just be a coincidence, but it has been almost two years since Japan got Monster Hunter 4 and it is unlikely that Capcom would reuse maps after so long.
Monster Hunter X is due out in Japan in the Winter of 2015, which is at the end of this year. How long it takes for it to be translated into English is anyone’s guess. After all, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate took almost two years to appear.
