Pebble has begun shipping the Pebble Time smartwatch to its Kickstarter backers, and is also announced that pre-orders will begin for those who are interested in picking it up. Shipping may take a while for the backers, considering the number of people who Kickstarted the Pebble Time.
Pebble Time is Pebble’s next generation smartwatch, which has been eagerly awaited by its fans since the original Kickstarter was announced. The display is the biggest upgrade over the original Pebble, although in this case it is because the screen now has colour. Pebble has also built an entirely new operating system to go along with their new smartwatch.
The first batch of 10,000 Pebble Times will begin shipping this week, and Pebble has arranged for five distribution centres around the world to ensure that backers are able to get their new toys. All backers should be receiving their tracking numbers by the middle of June. Pebble has not provided a time line for when it will finish shipping the devices.
Those who still want to get their hands on a Pebble Time but missed the Kickstarter campaign will be able to do so on 22 June when the pre-order opens up. Potential customers can also sign up for an email reminder about the pre-order. The Pebble Time is expected to retail for US$199 (about RM726), and it is unlikely that there will be an pre-order discount – considering that was already done during the Kickstarter campaign.
