There’s no denying that the Apple iPad sales hasn’t been doing very well lately, several financial reports indicates that the growth of its tablet segment has been slowing down, and it looks like Apple is working on several changes to help turn things the other way around. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is working on a dual-app viewing mode, 12” iPads codenamed “J98” and “J99”, as well as multi-user logins.
We’ve seen several multitasking features on the iPad. The feature was rumoured to make its debut on the iPad Air 2 that was announced last year but unfortunately, the feature wasn’t ready enough and was pulled from iOS 8. No thanks to fierce competitions, it is believed that Apple will bring the feature back.
According to sources from 9to5Mac, Apple will show off the side-by-side feature for iOS 9 in its WWDC 2015 event happening next month. As seen from the video above, the split-screen mode will support 1/2, 1/3 and 2/3 viewing depending on the app. Don’t keep your hopes up too high though, there are still chances that the feature could be pulled again.
9to5Mac is also bringing back the 12” iPad that has been brewing in the rumour mill for quite some time now. Their sources is saying that Apple is indeed working on larger iPads with the codename “J98” and “J99”. There are no launch date yet as the tablet is still waiting for its software to be finished up.
The 12” “iPad Pro” will be more than just an enlarged iPad Air though, Apple’s goal is to tweak its operating system to not only support split-screen, but will feature redesigned core apps and features to suit the larger display. There might also be additional keyboard and USB support.
Finally, last but not least, 9to5Mac says that Apple is working on a new feature to support multiple users. This means that multiple users can share an iPad, and each of them will have their own apps, documents and media, like on a Mac. Sadly though, this feature might not debut in iOS 9, and could be released later this year or early next year as a software update, alongside the iPad Pro.
Anybody here looking forward to what Apple has got up its sleeves for its tablet segment?
