Around a year ago, we were told that DiGi has planned to roll out LTE service for its prepaid customers but no time frame was given to us at that time. As it turns out, things have now changed as DiGi has revealed that its LTE service is now finally available for prepaid customers.
This fact was revealed by the Head of Digital Services for DiGi, Praveen Rajan during a press conference earlier today. He also stated that the LTE service is being rolled out in gradual manner to their prepaid customers and is available for all types of devices including broadbands, smartphones, and tablets.
That being said though, we have actually learned that DiGi’s LTE service for prepaid customers might have been activated since few months ago. According to Kugan of MalaysianWireless who is a DiGi Prepaid customer, he was able to utilize LTE with his prepaid plan since as early as February this year.
In terms of speed, it seems to be generally on par with the LTE service for postpaid customers as you can see through the comparison below:
We were informed by one of the staff at the on-going DiGi roadshow in 1 Utama that prepaid customers still need to convert to the LTE-enabled SIM card before they are able to utilize LTE on their devices. The conversion can be done at any DiGi Stores which costs RM 10 for standard or micro-SIM card and RM 20 for nano-SIM card.
Alternatively, you also can visit the roadshow in 1 Utama (until this Sunday) or one of these participating dealers (before 7 June) to switch the SIM card for free. This also applies to postpaid customers out there that have yet to convert to the LTE-enabled SIM card.
All in all, it is indeed baffling that DiGi didn’t publically announce the arrival of LTE for its prepaid customers. Even today’s “announcement” was not really an announcement but more like a mere mention in a remark by one of its executive.
Nevertheless, do make that SIM card switch right away if you want to have DiGi’s prepaid LTE service on your favourite devices. Once you do that, let us know how your DiGi prepaid LTE experience goes in the comment section below.
