Remember the Oppo smartphone with a glass back and LTE connectivity that we have covered some time ago? It now has an official name: the Neo 5s. It will be made available in Malaysia next week at a retail price of RM698. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, its asking price may be a tad too high; but you are getting a rather premium-looking device.
In terms of hardware, the Oppo Neo 5s has a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 display, a Snapdragon 410 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.2GHz that is paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage expandable with a microSD card up to 128GB, and a 2,000mAh battery. In the camera department, there is an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing shooter. Other specifications include ColorOS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and dual-SIM support.
While these specifications will not blow anyone away, the Neo 5s does have a metal frame, a glass back, and most of all, LTE connectivity. That being said, it seems like Oppo decided to focus more on the construction and aesthetics of the Neo 5s rather than pack it with a capable hardware, which is a rather interesting approach.
If you’re in the market for a small and compact Android smartphone that has a premium construction, the Oppo Neo 5s could just be the right smartphone for you. Of course, you’d have to settle with the subpar screen resolution and average processor. It will be available next week in Malaysia for RM698 in two choices of colour: black and white.
