You can always find something peculiar over at Kickstarter. Started by Joe Hollier and Kaiwei Tang – who met at Google’s 30 Weeks program, the Light Phone is meant to be a “phone away from phone”. Basically, it’s a phone the size of a credit card that makes and receives calls…but nothing else.
In order to use it, there will be an app for smartphones that will enable calls to be forwarded to the Light Phone. The device is designed to be used as little as possible, enabling users to “disconnect” and be free of distractions. It can also be used as a standalone phone as it comes with a SIM card slot.
If this may seem like a silly idea (not to mention the fact that it costs US$100, which is about RM360), there are as many as 808 people who have backed up the project. With 39 more days to go, the Light Phone has already raked in about US$100,000 of the US$200,000 goal. Chances are, this project will be funded, even though a feature phone will easily be cheaper.
If you’d like to fund the Light Phone, you can do so at its Kickstarter page here. However, seeing how this is still an ongoing project (that might even take up to a year to start shipping), it’s wise to practice a little caution before you back it up.
