Acer has announced the Acer Iconia Talk S for the Malaysian market. The device is a 6.9-inch phablet that skirts dangerously close to being a full blown tablet. Some Malaysians like big phones, and it looks like Acer is looking to cater to that market.
The display is 6.9-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800, combined with Zero Air Gap technology for improved image quality. Acer’s Touch WakeApp gesture also allows apps to be activated while the phone is locked. For instance, double tapping the screen immediately starts up the 5MP rear camera.
Inside is a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, and 16GB of storage. There does not appear to be a microsSD card slot, which limits the amount of data the Iconia Talk S is able to store; users should probably invest in extra cloud storage options in this case. Fortunately, the Iconia Talk S is LTE capable and can take advantage of the improved speeds when dealing with the cloud.
Acer promises that the Iconia Talk S will allow for nine hours of HD video playback and some 300 hours of standby time. Of course, mileage will vary according to usage. Rounding out the specifications are Android 4.4 KitKat and the dual-SIM capability.
What Acer has not told us is when the Iconia Talk S will be available in store, and how much it will be selling for.
[Update] The Acer Iconia Talk S is already available in stores nationwide for an RRP of RM799.
