SanDisk has just launched a slew of new mobile memory solutions in Malaysia. These include the iXpand flash drive for iPhone and iPad, a dual USB 3.0 OTG drive, and interestingly, a USB Type-C drive as well. Of course, SanDisk has also announced the world’s biggest microSD card for our market: the 200GB SanDisk Ultra.
The 200GB SanDisk Ultra is essentially a microSD card that boasts a read speed of 90MB/s with an unspecified write speed that is supposedly lower. SanDisk claims that users can transfer as many as 1,200 photos per minute at that speed, which is plenty impressive. Other than that, we have been told that any smartphone that supports a 128GB microSD card will be able to use the 200GB SanDisk Ultra.
The iXpand flash drive is a rather interesting product. With it, users can backup data easily from their iPhone or iPad with the accompanying iXpand sync app. They can then backup these data to a Mac or any Windows PC and vice versa. In terms of design, the iXpand has a metal exterior, giving it a very premium touch.
And then we have SanDisk’s first USB Type-C flash drive and the SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 OTG drive. Available in 32GB, the USB Type-C drive is basically a regular USB drive with a Type-C connector. The same goes for the SanDisk Ultra, which is available up to 64GB and has a micro USB port to connect to an Android smartphone.
As for availability, only the SanDisk iXpand and SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 OTG flash drives will be available for purchase now. The former will only be sold at Switch, Machines and Mac Studio for RM289, RM379, RM549 and RM825 for the 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities respectively.
The SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 OTG flash drive, on the other hand, will go for RM39, RM69 and RM129 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes respectively. As for the 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSD card, it will be available worldwide in Q2 2015, while the USB Type-C drive will arrive in the second half of the year.
