Samsung has released the next generation Gear smartwatch SDK to developers, and it comes bundled with plenty of hints about what the company is planning for its wearables. Codenamed Orbis, Samsung’s next wearable will apparently take on a circular appearance; something that other companies like Lenovo and Motorola are already doing.
The new wearable will feature a 1.18-inch display, with a resolution of 360 x 360 and a pixel density of 305 ppi. It will be equipped with an accelerometer, gyrosensor, heart-rate monitor, pressure sensor, and magnetic sensor; as well as Wi-Fi, GPS, and cellular radio.
A rotating bezel is being implemented to allow users to control apps without touching the display. The documentation says that this method can be used to navigate through list of items, navigate between screens, zoom in and out of images, change certain values in the UI, and to change the volume. The cellular radio also allows the smartwatch to take calls when paired with a BlueTooth headset.
There is no telling when the smartwatch is being released, but it is expected to show up at IFA 2015 later this year.
