Remember the Skype real-time translator that was introduced about half a year ago? Back then, the service was only available for a limited number of users to test and if you’ve been waiting to try it out, it is now available for the public to preview.
You can download Skype Translator preview app from the Windows Store on your Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 preview device. Skype has removed the requirement to sign-up to use the program, so just download it and use it straight away.
Skype Translator can translate in four spoken languages – English, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin. It can translate in real-time for voice and even video calls. Just call someone who has Skype Translator preview and as you speak with them, your conversation will be translated into another language in “near real-time”, and vice versa. A translated transcript will also be displayed on the screen.
It’s not the final version though, for now, Skype Translator is still in preview. By opening it up to the public, Skype hopes that with more users, it’ll help improve the technology and bring them closer to their “goal of overcoming language barriers worldwide”.
Check out Skype now to download Skype Translator preview to try it out for yourself.
