Lenovo Malaysia today unveiled its latest mid-range offering, and it’s a unique one. The A7000 smartphone is touted as the world’s first Dolby Atmos smartphone, while its specs are also pretty decent for its price.
If you’ve been frequenting selected GSC cinemas in the country, you’d probably know why the Dolby Atmos name is so familiar. The technology by Dolby, featured in selected GSC cinema halls by having speakers mounted not just on the side walls but also on the ceiling, creates a vividly realistic audio experience for viewers. Dolby Atmos software then calibrates the speakers to fire in the direction of the action – it is surround sound in its truest sense.
For the A7000, the Dolby Atmos technology is recreated via a dedicated sound chip that enhances audio output when a pair of headsets are plugged in. And any headsets will work – there are no Lenovo- or JBL-exclusive headsets that must be used for this feature. There’s also a rear speaker that isn’t immediately apparent works with Dolby Atmos, but from our first impressions the speaker is markedly louder with Dolby Atmos turned on.
Besides that, the A7000 is a pretty respectable mid-range smartphone. It’s powered by a 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6752 TrueOcta octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (with support for up to 32GB microSD cards), a 2,900mAh removable battery and dual-SIM support (LTE + 2G standby). The display is a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display, while the imaging department is handled by an 8MP Sony rear sensor and a 5MP front-facing shooter with five shooting modes.
This 140g device is also 7.99mm thin, and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop on Lenovo’s Vibe UI 2.0 software.
The Lenovo A7000 will retail for RM699, but for the next six weeks beginning 20 May, online retailer Lazada will be offering the A7000 at a special price of RM625 in a series of flash sales. Registrations for the first flash sale happening on 20 May has already begun – and Lazada’s sweetening the deal further by offering an additional RM20 discount off the RM625 price for those who register for the upcoming flash sale.
