Snake is returning with an updated version for smartphones. Called Snake Rewind, it brings back the classic gameplay of directing a pixelated snake across the screen to eat similarly pixelated food. The developers are promising some new features as well, but it is uncertain if Snake is capable of recapturing the fun all those frustratingly lost hours.
Snake Rewind is developed by Rumilus Design and the original programmer of Snake – Taneli Armanto. A preview video has been released showing some of the new powers, modes, and abilities added to Snake to bring it into the 21st century. The most important of which is the ability to rewind time if your snake dies; this is also where the name of the new game comes from. Aside from that, it looks like there will be new types of food to collect, and what appears to be a lightning field appearing at the Snake’s head.
The game is set to be published on 14 May, and is coming to Android, iOS, and Windows Phone when it is released. Hear that? Windows Phone from day one, which is how it should be. There is no word on the pricing of the game either, or whether it will have in-app purchases.
