It looks like prepaid phone bundles are getting more and more popular lately. Celcom is now offering selected smartphones at a discounted price, with its Internet of Xpax (IOX) prepaid pack, that comes with no contract, and free internet for an entire year.
Celcom is offering the Alcatel Pop D3 for free, Alcatel Pop C9 for RM189, Oppo New 5 for RM299, or an iPhone 6 (16GB) for RM2,249. All you need to do is add on RM99, and Celcom will include a Internet of Xpax pack (comes with RM5 credit), along with free 500MB of data every month for 12 consecutive months.
You won’t get a big device price subsidy like postpaid bundles, but this prepaid bundle does not tie you up to a contract, which means that you can change your plan or port out anytime you want. Of course, in order to fully utilise the offer, you’ll need to stay active for an entire year.
Sadly though, unlike the telco’s data plans, you can’t carry forward unused internet. Celcom says that any unused internet will be forfeited once the 30-day period has expired, and a fresh 500MB internet will be available for use in the next 30 days. Fortunately, it’s a non-stop internet, which means that once the 500MB of data is used up, you can still continue to browse for free though, at a throttled speed of 64kbps.
