Xiaomi will be holding its fifth fan gathering of 2015, and it has chosen Malaysia as its next stop in order to celebrate the first anniversary of Mi Malaysia. Registration for the event is open until 10 May 2015 (this Sunday), and Mi Malaysia will only select 50 people to join them at the event.
Tokens of appreciation will be given out to the lucky attendees, although Xiaomi has not said what these will be. It is difficult to wager a guess at what Xiaomi has in store, considering that it is splashing the cash on its fans as of late. The post on the MIUI forums also tells fans to expect a lucky draw, although it does not go as far as to confirm that one will be held.
Interestingly, the notice seems to indicate that anyone can turn up for the gathering; but only those who have received an official invitation will be eligible for gifts and the lucky draw. It says that “However, if you wish to join in for the fun, you can always drop in and participate!” It is an unusual situation, but it looks like Mi Malaysia is ready to accommodate fans who simply turn up and want to see what’s going on.
The fan gathering itself will be held from 2pm on 16 May 2015 (a Saturday), and will last until 8.30pm. Interestingly, the notice provides some conflicting information. The beginning of the notice says that the location of the gathering is at Lowyat Plaza, however, a second venue in Damansara Jaya is also listed in the information. It is likely that the gathering will happen at the Damansara Jaya location.
Selected fans have also been asked to write any questions they have for Mi Malaysia on a piece of paper and bring it with them. These questions will be drawn at random and answered during the gathering.
There isn’t much time left, and there are already of 100 applications for the remaining seats at the fan gathering. Mi Malaysia has not revealed the selection criteria, but it looks to be done at random. Xiaomi fans can visit the page and click on the apply button for the chance to be selected to join the Mi Malaysia Gathering.
[Update] Xiaomi Malaysia has informed us that this is an unofficial fan gathering, and it was not organised by the company. It looks to be put together by Malaysian fans who want a meetup, despite the language used in the original forum post.
