Facebook is tweaking its News Feed again but don’t worry, they’re not going to change the layout entirely. Instead, the social network says that they want to update their News Feed algorithm to show users the things they care about.
Facebook is making three major updates to its News Feed today. The first will affect users with a very quiet News Feed. Facebook previously had a rule to prevent multiple posts from the same source but with this update, they are relaxing this rule a little so you’ll never run out of updates to read about.
The second update is possibly the one that will affect most users. Facebook will be showing more updates from your friends you care about. Things like photos, videos, status updates and links shared by your friends will be higher up in news Feed so you are less likely to miss it. You’ll still see updates from pages you’ve liked of course, but this update “tries to make the balance of content the right one for each individual person”.
Finally, for those of you who are fed up with Facebook feeding you information about things your friends have liked or commented on, you can breathe a sigh of relieve. This update will make such stories appear lower down in News Feed or not show at all, so you’ll feel less of a stalker and have more space to see things that are more relevant.
