Swedish Furniture company, IKEA has unveiled its latest line of furniture that has wireless charging built right in. The company will also be selling wireless charging accessories for the user to install it into existing furniture and smartphones, all compliant with the Qi wireless charging standard.
With the company slowly stepping into the world of technology – wireless charging to be specific, the Qi wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium will be even more accessible to the regular consumer. Slowly but surely, IKEA’s presence in the furniture market and its chain stores around the world would greatly increase the adoption of such technology in people’s everyday life.
Not only will IKEA make wireless charging more accessible, they will also make it superbly easy for the regular user to install it themselves. Users can either purchase a furniture that already has wireless charging built-in or get the right accessories and make it themselves. This lets them choose where they want the wireless charger to be and also gives them more room for creativity to create their own wireless charging furniture.
IKEA’s wireless charging furniture include nightstands, floor and table lamps, and also work lamps. These furniture are equipped with both a wireless charger and a USB port should the user need to charge a second device. Other than that, wireless charging accessories like the NORDMARKE single pad and triple pad charger let users charge their multiple devices simultaneously either wirelessly or via a charging cable.
All it takes is for a simple change of phone casing to have wireless charging features enabled on a smartphone. The VITAHULT wireless charging cover makes the user’s Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, S5; and also the iPhone 4, 5, 5S and 6 compatible with IKEA’s wireless charging furniture and charging pads. Interestingly enough, there were no wireless charging cover listed for the iPhone 6 Plus.
These furniture will go on sale in the United States during the late Spring season. It is not sure when or if these furnitures will ever be available in Malaysia’s IKEA branch, but for now, those interested can check out the furniture’s prices here in IKEA’s wireless charging furniture 2015 product catalogue.
